About Me

I grew up in the Pittsburgh suburbs with woods surrounding my house and a stream running through the front yard. I thought I was Laura Ingalls and could often be found wearing a period dress that I made while I gathered wood for our wood-burning stove. Though history was not my favorite subject in school, I loved (and still do) anything historical, so much so that I became a young harmonist at Old Economy Village, a historical settlement. All of the volunteers dressed up in old-fashioned clothes.

I began reading historical romance novels in my mid-twenties. I put reading aside to raise a family, but I married a man who never minded dressing up the part for any event, whether it was Renaissance festivals, pow-wows in the backyard, or even disco parties with the kids. He tagged along with me to several tea houses and even helped me put on a few Victorian tea parties.

I was so intrigued with long, long ago, that at age thirteen, I began my family research through letters to my grandmother. Exploring my heritage has become much easier nowadays.

No, I am not Scottish! French and Sicilian blood runs through my veins. So, where does my love for everything Scottish come from? The bagpipes! Okay, okay, the rugged men in their kilts may have something to do with it, too.

I have always thought I lived in the wrong era. No running water, you say? I have hiked several miles and backpack camped in the winter with my husband and boys.

Once my four children grew up, I had time to do the things I loved as a child. I read, daydream, and dress up. I volunteer once again at Old Economy Village and can often be seen wearing an earasaid (a woman’s great kilt) at events. I can sometimes be found camping, hiking, and kayaking by myself with my writing journal in my backpack. In nature is my favorite place to write.
